6. Carr, S.J.: You Are Not Sparrows. London: Ian Allan Ltd.,1975. 1st. edn. with author's inscription. "Beau" Carr gives a light-hearted account of flying with the Royal Air Force between the wars. His first flight was in an Avro 504 as a boy and follows his career up to flying in Mk.9 Spitfires as a Wing Commander. Excellent photographs include some rather hairy "occurrences"! 143 pp. Stock ref 848. £14.00

7. Collier, Basil.: The Airship (a history). London: Hart - Davis, MacGibbon Ltd., 1974. Book and D/W in VG-Fine condition. 1st. edn. Basil Collier " has researched extensively into the history of the airship from a wide range of published and unpublished sources. His book, illustrated with over 100 photographs, is a magnificent record of the airship - its past glories and tragedies and its future possibilities. Appendices, biblio., index, 271 pp. Stock ref 874. £18.00

11. Gollin, Alfred.: No Longer an Island - (Britain & the Wright Brothers 1902 - 1909). London: Heinemann, 1984. 1st. edn. Book and d/w in VG condition. This major work of reference is based upon official British and American documents and studies the effect on the British people with the appearance of the first successful flying machines and the perceived threat of air attack. Particularly pays attention to the Wright brothers' activities and follows with an analysis of the achievements of Count Zeppelin and early French aviation in concentrating British thought to Air Defence. Quoted by the American historian George Dangerfield as "a masterpiece.... it will be a classic." 478 pp. Stock ref 860. £20.00

12. Heinemann, Edward H. and Rosario Rausa.: Combat Aircraft Designer - (The Ed. Heinemann Story). London: Jane's Publishing Company, 1980. 1st. U.K. edn. D/w slightly rubbed and creased, book in VG condition apart from one page being "vandalised" by the removal of an illustration which does not appear to be of great significance and does not impact on the narrative. Heinemann was the guiding force behind a remarkable series of combat a/c., from the Dauntless to the Skyhawk. Very well illustrated with photographs and drawings. Appendix, biblio., index, 277 pp. Stock ref 877. £18.00

13. Hogg, Garry.: Airship over the Pole. London: Abelard - Schuman, 1969. 1st. edn. D/w only good with sm. piece missing from top of spine and sm. tear at bottom of front. Book VG. Well illustrated with photographs, 160 pp. The story of the ill-fated airship "Italia" and the attempt by the Italian explorer, General Nobile, to establish a team of specialists at the North Pole. Covers the incredible land-sea-air rescue attempts to recover the part of the Italia's crew who survived her loss. Stock ref 847. £11.00

The story of the air war over Europe in W.W.1, covering the exploits of the "Aces" of opposing sides and the advances in aeronautical technology. 18. Middlebrook, Martin.: The Nuremberg Raid. London: Allen Lane, 1980. Book & d/w VG+. This copy is a reprint of the 1973 original but with revisions that suggest that plans of the raid were deliberately leaked to the Germans. Very well illustrated with photographs and maps. Index and appendices, 367 pp. Stock ref 850. £13.00

19. Migeo, Marcel.: Saint-Exupery. London: Macdonald,1961. 1st. U.K. version of the French original of 1958. D/w much creased and worn, book is in G+ condition. Previous owner's inscription on fep. Illustrated with photographs, 335 pp. The biography of the French fighter "Ace" which also clarifies the circumstances of his mysterious disappearance and death in 1944. Stock ref 851. £12.00

21. Sinclair, J.A., Captain.: Famous Airships of the World. London: Frederick Muller Limited, 1959. 1st. edn. ex-libris. D/w rubbed and worn, book good but with light foxing to eps. and edges. The author gives a very good account of the development of airships , having spent many years of his life in their service. Illustrated with photographs and drawings, 144 pp. Stock ref 866. £8.00

24. Berget, Alphonse . : The Conquest of the Air. London: Wm. Heinemann, 1909. In G condition. The many pages of diagrams and wonderful photographs of the early years of aviation are complete. A truly fascinating look at the beginnings of manned flight. 288pp plus index. Stock ref 47. £38.00.
