This is a facsimile volume of the original that was eventually published in 1942 in a limited edition of only 100 copies. Exceptionally well researched and written account of the disastrous though heroic airborne assault on the bridge which crosses the Rhine at Arnhem. Illustrated with photographs and maps. 47. Smitherman, P.H.: Uniforms of the British Army. London: Hugh Evelyn, 1970. 1st. edn. D/w has a few marks, sl. 1/2 inch tear at bottom and v. sl. rubbing to top edge - generally G++. Book has very minor foxing to eps. though, most importantly, the illustrations are in mint condition. Unfortunately, page 37 has been removed - this being the illustration of a Field Officer, Middlesex Yeomanry, 1897. The remaining 44 are a selection of Colonel Smitherman's well known drawings. A larger format book containing many personal experiences of combatants of the Services of the European Allies in W.W.2. One remarkable story is told by a female Russian sniper who alone shot 250 + Germans! Stock ref 350. £5.00
