Geographical and Historical information from the year 1750.
[Transcribed information from Stephen Whatley's Gazetteer of England - 1750]
(unless otherwise stated)
"SAWSTON, (Cambridgeshire) at the bottom of Gogmagog-Hills, S. E. of Cambridge, was
the seat of Sir John Huddleston; to
which Q. Mary I. came, and rode from hence in disguise behind his servant to Framlingham-Castle,
where she first claimed
the crown; and when she had obtained it, made Sir John her privy-counseller, and
gave him the greatest part of Cambridge-
Castle."
