St. Silas's Church, Hull
108. BARMSTON STREET. St. Silas's Anglican church. The church was consecrated in 1871 to serve a district assigned from the parish of St. Paul, Sculcoates in that year. In 1869 the Hull architect R.G. Smith won the competition for a design for the church but as in the case of All Saints', Margaret Street, he was replaced - this time by Samuel Musgrave. Red stock brick with stone dressings in Early English style. The last service took place in 1967. The redundant building was damaged by fire in 1968 and demolished the following year. A warehouse (engineering and welding supplies) is now on the site. [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull]
