123. WITHAM. Holborn St. Congregational chapel. Built 1830 for the son of a minister of Hope Street chapel. Square hipped-roof building with two storey block at front with sloping roof. Burial vaults below the main building. Used by Primitive Methodists 1860-64. It then became a temperance hall before being used by the Salvation Army, Spiritualists and other religious groups. Converted to commercial premises and used as a grocery store in 1954 and an office equipment shop in 1991. [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull] |
