St. Giles Church, Marfleet

St. Giles Church, Marfleet
146. MARFLEET. St. Giles's Anglican church. The first known mention of this church was c.1217, when it was a chapel-of-ease to the parish church of Paull in Holderness. In 1650 Marfleet was said to be 'fit to be made a parish', and in 1706 the church was described as a parish church. The medieval church building, no picture of which has yet been found, was completely rebuilt in 1793 to the design of George Pycock of Hull. The church was again completely rebuilt late in the 19th century to a design by J.T. Webster of Hedon and reopened in 1884. This building is still in use. [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull]
