15. GEORGE YARD. George Yard Methodist chapel. Built c.1785 at a cost of £4,500. 1,060 sittings in 1851. Red brick with stone dressings. A seven-bay two-storey building with round-headed windows throughout with Gothic style glazing bars. The centre three bays projected nine inches and had a porticoed central door with segmental pediment. Secondary doors gave access to galleries and side aisles. The galleries which were supported by fluted oak columns ran round three sides. The high mahogany pulpit which was opposite the entrances was flanked by high windows. The ceiling had attractive plaster detailing. The chapel was modernised in 1891. Closed November 1905 and demolished soon after. [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull]
