The Albion Congregational Independent Chapel, Hull
32. ALBION STREET. Albion Independent chapel (Congregational). Foundation stone laid 7 July 1841. Opened 1842. Cost £8,000. Designed by H.F. Lockwood in Greek Revival style. The front elevation consisted of a massive stone Doric portico of six columns. Stone front, side and rear walls of grey brick with stone surrounds to the windows. Internally the galleries were supported on square iron pillars with Grecian capitals. Seating for 1642. Organ installed in 1849. Below the chapel were schoolrooms and burial vaults. Largely destroyed by bombing in 1941. Remaining part demolished 1949. Insurance office built on site at corner of Percy Street. [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull]
