78. ANLABY ROAD. Bourne Primitive Methodist chapel. Foundation stone laid September 1869. Designed by Joseph Wright of Hull. In white brick with stone dressings in Gothic style. Cost £7,610. Said to seat 2000 in 1881. Deregistered in 1960 and demolished by 1964. Miles Kingsport showroom on site (Oct. 1991). Schoolroom survives behind. 'Internally it is a most comfortable place of worship'. (Bulmer 1892). Named after Hugh Bourne, one of the founders of the Primitive Methodist Connexion. [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull] |
