Lost Churches and Chapels in North West Hull. |
94. MARGARET STREET. All Saints' Anglican church. Consecrated in 1869, this church immediately became the parish church of Sculcoates. The church was built to a design by G.E. Street after the Archbishop of York had rejected a design by Hull architect R.G. Smith because it exhibited his 'general inexperience'. Red stock brick with stone dressings in Early English style. The tower, by Hull architect Samuel Musgrave was added in 1883. Seating for 1100. The church was replaced as parish church of Sculcoates by the Church of St. Stephen the Martyr, Spring Bank, formerly the rebuilt Jubilee Methodist chapel, in 1972. The old church was closed, and demolished in 1974. The site is now occupied by housing (Cavendish Square). [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull] |
