The Church of St. Augustine of Hippo, Hull

The Church of St. Augustine of Hippo, Hull
98. QUEEN'S ROAD. St. Augustine of Hippo Anglican church. The church was consecrated in 1896 to serve a district assigned to it from Newland. A temporary church had existed on the site from 1884. The original plans were drawn up in 1887 by George Gilbert Scott, junior, but the work was eventually carried out by his assistant Temple Moore who produced a new design. Red brick relieved by tiles with stone dressings. In Decorated (Curvilinear) style. The proposed tower was never completed. The west porch was by H. Andrew. After closure the church was demolished in 1976. The site is now occupied by housing. Former church hall of 1901-2 by John Dossor survives. [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull]
