Transmitter/Receiver Type TR1196,

The TR1196 replaced the TR9. It was a 4-channel HF set consisting of 4 units: a crystal-controlled transmitter; a crystal-controlled super heterodyne receiver; a 12V or 24V Rotary Converter PSU and a mounting frame to which the other units were electrically connected by Jones Plugs/Sockets, and firmly clamped.
A stepping motor for channel selection was housed in the centre section of the base mounting frame - it was actuated by a Channel Selection button being pressed on the Remote Controller. The Transmitter had a separate PA Tank circuit for each channel - a silver-plated roller coil being used for each one, with a Tuning knob on top. A bulb, under a red cover, could be switched in to aid in tuning the transmitter for maximum output - the output power being about 3 watts. The Receiver had a sensitivity of about 1uV, it was fitted with a squelch circuit. The raised crystal-housing covers can be seen on both the Transmitter and Receiver.
Frequency coverage was 4.3 Mc/s to 6.7 Mc/s, with the crystals being used on their fundamental frequencies.
